By James C.

Being an American has many benefits. We have a strong, free government. We have a lot of opportunities such as having a large farming industry, which produces food for us, and the world. Many countries do not have a lot of wealth & privileges. We also have a famous entertainment industry with movie stars & glamour.

Our government is made up of three main branches: The Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, which make things fair & unique for us. Our government creates laws that allow us freedom such as voting rights, religious rights, free education, & women’s rights. Music such as rap, rock-n-roll, and country were created here. We have huge companies that reach across the world like McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, & Coca-Cola. America is a wonderful place that offers its citizens the chance to make his or her dreams come true…

Letter from a Patriot

By Nathan Hale

Nathan Hale, a martyr soldier of the American Revolution, was born in Coventry, Conn., June 6, 1755. When but little more than twenty-one years old he was hanged, by order of General William Howe, as a spy, in the city of New York, on September 22, 1776.

At the great centennial celebration of the Revolution, and the part which the State of Connecticut bore in it, an immense assembly of the people of Connecticut, on the heights of Groton, took measures for the erection of a statue in Hale’s honor. Their wish has been carried out by their agents in the government of the State. A bronze statue of Hale is in the State Capitol. Another bronze statue of him has been erected in the front of the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford. Another is in the city of New York.
